Terms and Conditions of Commitment

Before bringing a Puppy home from Dachshund Puppy LLC (“Seller” or “We”), we want you to understand that owning a Dachshund means a commitment to frequent, preventative visits to a licensed veterinarian. You will be responsible for all costs associated with such routine care.

At Dachshundspuppy, we do everything we can to ensure your puppy is as healthy as possible when they arrive. Our commitment, provided below, outlines the scope and limits of our responsibility should a health issue arise after you take possession.

1. What is Our Health Commitment?

Our commitment covers specific health issues that may arise after the arrival of your Dachshund Puppy. Before arrival, your puppy has undergone an extensive veterinary health check, and their breeder has followed our strict vaccination and deworming protocols. This commitment is offered only to the original Buyer for the Puppy delivered and continually residing within the United States or Canada.

A. Days 1-14 (Infectious Diseases/Parasites)

If, within fourteen (14) days of the Puppy’s arrival, the Puppy is found to have a contagious disease, illness, or parasite that was contracted prior to arrival, the Seller will provide you with reimbursement of reasonable and customary veterinary bills to treat such condition up to the Purchase Price of your Puppy. Reimbursement requires presentation of itemized, paid bills within 21 days of the diagnosis.

B. Year 1 (Congenital/Hereditary)

If, within one (1) year from the date of arrival, your dog is found and certified by two duly licensed doctors of veterinary medicine (the “Veterinarian”) of your choosing to have a life-threatening or debilitating congenital or hereditary condition, and you notify the Seller in writing within five (5) business days of the first Veterinarian’s determination:

  • The Seller will provide reimbursement of reasonable, documented, and actually incurred veterinary expenses associated with such diagnosed condition, up to the original Purchase Price of your Puppy.

C. Years 2-10 (Long-Term Commitment)

If, between the first and tenth anniversary of the date of arrival, your dog is found and certified by two Veterinarians of your choosing to have a life-threatening or debilitating congenital or hereditary condition:

The Seller shall, upon presentation of reasonable, documented, actually incurred veterinary expenses associated with such diagnosed condition, at your option, either:

  1. Issue a credit equal to fifty percent (50%) of the Purchase Price, to be used toward the purchase of another puppy from the Seller; OR
  2. Reimburse you for your actually incurred veterinary expenses associated with such diagnosed condition, up to twenty-five percent (25%) of the original Purchase Price of your Puppy.

 MANDATORY PET INSURANCE

The commitment below is contingent on the Buyer maintaining a comprehensive pet insurance policy for the first 12 months of ownership.

To be eligible for claims under sections 1.B and 1.C, the Buyer MUST provide proof of an active major medical pet insurance policy that was in force for the entire first twelve (12) months of the Puppy’s arrival. If the policy is canceled during this 12-month period, the Seller’s commitment will terminate and become null and void.

2. What is Not Covered?

The following are NOT covered by this commitment:

  • Routine Care: Cost of regular veterinary visits, preventative care, vaccinations, food, supplements, grooming, spay/neuter procedures, or training.
  • Accidents & Injuries: Injuries resulting from accidents, neglect, abuse, choking, falls, ingestion of foreign objects, runaways, or any human-inflicted injuries.
  • Behavior: Behavior, personality, or temperament traits (e.g., house training, barking, chewing, digging).
  • Aesthetics: Appearance, size, coat color, or other physical characteristics not affecting the dog’s health.
  • Hypoglycemia: Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), particularly in Miniature Dachshunds, is a nutritional issue and is not covered. It is the owner’s responsibility to monitor and ensure proper feeding.
  • Dachshund-Specific Exclusions (If resulting from negligence or excessive strain): Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) or other spinal issues, Patellar Luxation, or obesity-related joint issues are not covered if the condition is determined by a Veterinarian to be caused or exacerbated by improper care, diet, or excessive exercise during the dog’s growth period.
  • Contagious illnesses or parasites diagnosed more than 14 days after the Puppy’s arrival.

3. Your Obligations as the Buyer

This Health Commitment will terminate and become NULL AND VOID if the Buyer does not fulfill the following obligations:

  1. Mandatory Initial Vet Visit: You must have the Puppy examined by a licensed Veterinarian within 72 hours of arrival.
  2. No Over-Vaccination: Your Puppy will arrive up-to-date on necessary vaccinations. To avoid over-vaccination, you should not administer any vaccines within the first ten (10) days after the Puppy’s arrival.
  3. Appropriate Exercise and Care:
    • You must provide appropriate, supervised exercise and stimulation.
    • Crucially for Dachshunds: You must avoid excessive running, jumping, or climbing stairs during the growth period to protect the developing spine. You must consult your Veterinarian regarding the appropriate amount of exercise for your puppy at each stage of life.
  4. Healthy Diet: You must feed the Puppy a recommended nutritional program, including premium dog food and veterinarian-approved supplements, and be careful not to overfeed the Puppy, as excess weight is detrimental to a Dachshund’s back health.
  5. Regular Veterinary Care: You must visit a licensed Veterinarian on a regular basis (at least annually) and maintain full, accurate medical records.
  6. No Breeding: Your Puppy is intended to be a companion dog. If the Puppy is bred, this Health Commitment shall terminate and become null and void.

4. How to File a Claim

If you have complied with the requirements in Section 3 and your Puppy experiences a health issue that you believe may be covered, you must notify the Seller immediately by emailing healthclaims@dachshundspuppy.com

Claim Processing:

  • For all claims: You must provide itemized, paid invoices from your Veterinarian.
  • For Year 1 and Years 2-10 Claims: You must provide certification from two licensed Veterinarians diagnosing the condition.
  • The Seller reserves the right to obtain an additional opinion by a Veterinarian of the Seller’s choosing to review any diagnosis.
  • The Seller will review all provided documentation and determine coverage eligibility. This process may take several days.
  • The liability of the Seller under this Commitment is limited solely to the remedies set forth herein.

5. Dispute Resolution

Any claims arising under or relating to the terms of this Health Commitment are governed by the mandatory arbitration provisions outlined in the Terms and Conditions of Sale.
